Art Panels

Types of Art Panels

  • Birch Ply is a traditional panel which can be sealed, primed and painted with any medium. We use only the finest furniture-grade birch ply, laminated to our solid & fully cross-braced Basswood backing cradles with resin glue & galvanized brad nails. Any depth from 1”-6” available. Size limit of 48” x 96” without a seam.

  • Gatorboard is super-light, stable & rigid. It is best as a backing panel for stretched canvas or linen, providing a solid backing for those who need it. Any depth from 1”-6” available. Size limit of 60” x 120” without a seam.

  • Sintra is solid PVC sheet and is an increasingly popular panel surface. It is strong, flat, light and much more stable than birch ply as it inert & not affected by humidity or temperature, creating a much more stable panel. It can be primed and painted just like wood. Any depth from 1”-6” available. Size limit of 60” x 120” without a seam.

  • Tycore cellulose fiber honeycomb panel is an archival paper panel laminated to our basswood cradle.  It is fabulous to work on with paints or drawing materials, is super-light and very stable. It is costly, but discerning artists love it. Any depth from 1”-6” available. Size limit of 60” x 120” without a seam.

 Custom panel priming

Our panels can be primed with our exclusive PANEL PRIME surface. With our PANEL PRIME, each panel is sealed with an alcohol-based shellac, over which our pure acrylic titanium dioxide primer is applied in multiple coats, each sanded in between, creating a beautiful, smooth and rich painting surface. It is NOT glass smooth…some minor texture remains. But it is always a smoother surface than any canvas or linen surface.
